Laminate
Adhering thin layers of material with pressure and heat is called lamination.


LAN
Abbreviation for “Local Area Network”: Local network • contrary to a WAN that connects work stations and networks across regions. “Local” here refers to one common site such as company grounds or one room. See also Bluetooth, HPN, Powerline Kerpenwerk – specialist for independent and universal cabling of buildings.


Laser engraving
Procedure to blacken special plastic layers by burning them with a laser. The laser engraving procedure is sometimes referred to as “lasering”.


LBCI
Abbreviation for “Look Bundle Cash In”.
Bundle deposit module for self-service machines.


LDM
Abbreviation for “Large Delivery Module”. Large delivery compartment for more than 100 Banknotes.


LEAD®
Stands for "Long-lasting Economical Anti-copy Device" and is a holographic stripe along the edge of the banknote.


Lifecycle
The time from the distribution of the intelligent card and the annulling or expiration.


Linker
A linker converts the symbolic memory addresses in a compiled or assembled program code into absolute or relative memory addresses.

LINUX
A variant of UNIX that was initiated by Linus Torvalds of Finland and that, in the meantime, has been further developed by many programmers. Linux is marketed as a GPL (general public license), in other words: only the distribution itself costs money, the actual license for the operating system and the software are free. In technical circles, Linux is praised as the most stable and flexible operating system for PCs and servers with the best price/performance ratio and the best development potential. Contrary to conventional software, the user of open source software often has the option of individually changing this and passing this on as desired, with the only requirement being that the source code always be accessible. And it is still very inexpensive.


Lobby® 90
Lobby® 90 is a banknote detection system for loose banknote bundles. This OEM module is used in deposit machines in the self-service area of banks or in back offices.


LongLife
Banknote paper with soil-repellent properties to increase the circulation lifespan.


LOOK®
Laser Originated Optical Key – A new procedure that uses the most modern laser technology to individually change known security features and thereby generating new security features. The procedure also expands the previously available possibilities of designing banknotes. LOOK add a decisive security level to the printing of banknotes.


Loyalty cards
The goal or a customer loyalty program is to keep regular customer, gain more loyalty from occasional customers, and to win over new customers. The customers are attracted by personal service and product offers, at the same time they are influenced by material advantages such as discounts or bonuses or non-material advantages such as preferential treatment. Modern cards are ideal instruments for implementing these advantages. They are easy to carry, sturdy, and able to store large amounts of data. A customer card with a processor chip can also perform offline calculations.
