The system allows GSM mobile operators to use their existing authentication infrastructure to provide access to wireless networks.
Besides handling authentication, EAP SIM also solves the issue of billing. Data such as the length of network usage are forwarded directly to the mobile operator. This lets the network operator use its existing billing system for further transactions.
